SBMGA FOR 2024 HAPPY NEW YEARPrint Message
Sunday January 7, 2024 9:40 AM

SBMGA had a fantastic 2023 and we hope to continue for 2024. We had 5 tournaments during the year with plenty of winners. Treasury has $364 left in the kitty to be used for that ever hidden hole in one party. We are a non profit organization.

Dues for 2024 will be $100. Please put your check in the SBMGA envelope in the right side desk drawer. You can also give it to me, or J J Whalen. Dues should be paid by the end of January if you wish to enjoy the SBMGA. Our benefits include guaranteed tee times on Monday, Wednesday and also the Rebel group on Friday. We also have the easy to use website for your convenience. Dues will allow SBMGA to have 5 tournaments a year and drinks paid for all your ACES.

A meeting for 2024 will be scheduled soon. Stay tuned for the announcement.

Thank You for being an SBMGA and Sandpiper Bay club member.

John Radziewski,
Treasurer

Current Sand Trap Etiquette at Sandpiper Golf and Country ClubPrint Message
Wednesday May 18, 2022 12:59 PM

Gentlemen:

This information comes from two of the pro shop employees:

Currently, most of the sand traps have rakes but there are a few which do not have rakes yet. If you hit a ball in a Sand Trap which has a rake you must play the ball where it lies and hit out of the trap. Once you have done that, use the rake to clean up the trap where you have walked and any other rough areas in the trap.

Secondly, if you have hit a ball in a Sand Trap which has no rake and your ball is lying in hole or divot, you may lift your ball, smooth the mark, carefully set the ball down and then hit out of the trap. Only then may you improve the lie of your ball since there was no opportunity for anyone ahead of you to rake the sand.

If you have any questions, feel free to address them to the Pro Shop.

Notes of the SBMGA Meeting on May 5, 2022Print Message
Saturday May 7, 2022 10:14 AM

The Special Meeting to discuss replacement officers after the untimely death of President Coulson was called to order by Treasurer JJ Whalen at 12:24pm. JJ indicated that he was placing the plaque for Gordy on the bench that day. He also wanted to remind us of the passing of Al Bowman a long time Rebel and member of SBMGA

There were 22 members present out of 43 paid members. The treasury has $3400.

JJ indicated that we needed to appoint a new President as well as to solicit some help for Mike Casagrande. JB suggested for the current period of time that JJ hold the office of treasurer as well as that of President. JJ indicated he was willing to do this.

Anyone willing to assist Mike Casagrande should feel free to contact him to see how they can be helpful.

In addition, we also needed to find a replacement VP for JB. John R. nominated Eric Preus who with some trepidation accepted the nomination and became the VP.

Tom de St.Aubin indicated that he thought we needed a root rule. Mike Donovan said we had one. Move ball one club length and take a penalty stroke. That was not a sufficient answer and others spoke up in favor of the idea. Luckily cooler heads prevailed and suggested that we table the motion and investigate the ramifications of creating a Root Rule since there seems to be a number of technical issues we needed to investigate. JJ will do this and report back to the membership.

The group was also reminded that any ball landing in the Environmental Hazard area on Bay 7 is ipso facto Out-Of-Bounds. Thay message is displayed on the score cards.

We hope that Members will continue supporting the SBMGA by playing in the games on Monday and Wednesday as well as participating in the occasional tournaments.

Respectfully Submitted,
Donald R. Moore Secretary Pro Tem

Some questions have come up about Environmental Area on Bay Hole 8.
The following is written on the bottom of Sandpiper Bay score card and is a local rule by Sandpiper Bay Golf Course:
**Environmentally sensitive area on Bay Course Hole Number 8 is out of bounds! Please do not retrieve ball!

Policies for Entering ScoresPrint Message
Friday March 18, 2022 3:19 PM

Here are the policies for entering scores into the GHIN system

1.  Create a profile in the GHIN system and enter them from their personal computers, tablets or phone.  If you need assistance with setting up your profile, the Golf Shop staff will help you with this as long as you have an existing email address. This is necessary to get the profile set up.

2.  The Golf Shop staff can enter the score for you by using the second register which is to the left of the Head Professional Office.  This will be done during down times, not during the check-in periods.

3.  Members / Guests can enter scores through the Handicap Computer located at the back of the Golf Shop.  (This option is not available at this time because of COVID-19).  This option may become available mid-summer when more vaccines have been issued.

OB RulePrint Message
Thursday July 1, 2021 8:45 AM

I think the new OB rule states that the player must determine where the ball WENT OUT OF BOUNDS and then locate the drop point on the fairway. This seems to mean where the ball crosses the Out Of Bound marker not where the ball eventually landed.

It has come to my attention with the new process for entering scores in the Ghin system, some members are having trouble setting up profiles or may not have an email to set up the profile.  Those members are becoming frustrated that they cant enter scores.  I am working on a process to eliminate that problem moving forward.

We will be putting a new policy into place to accommodate those details and make the process easier for those that are having minor issues.  I expect the policy will be in place by the end of next week and we will post that policy on your website.

The club will send out an email to the membership to notify them of the changes. If you know someone without email service, I would appreciate it if you would let them know or have them check in with the golf shop to keep them informed.

Thank you for your patience while we do everything we can to make you golf more enjoyable.  Thank you Head Golf Professional Richard Kascsak
